It’s quite hard to write a racing newsletter when there’s no racing. Well, there is the desert rats, but it’s nearly Christmas - everyone should be trying to win thier turkey money on some HMS looking giant in a 3mile steeple chase.

Alas, all the jumps tracks are struggling with the amount of rain we’ve had recently and as a result, the going is ‘wet, wet to get your waders on’ with courses currently totally unraceable. There is certainly a lockdown vibe about the whole thing.

We were REALLY hoping todays Southwell meeting survived. Today could have been special, wait, no…historic.

BACK TO THE FUTURE

Yesterday marked the two year anniversary when CONSTITUTION HILL made THAT debut for Nicky Henderson at Sandown.

His win was one of the most devastating debut performances in the history of racing and now, two years one, his trainer Nicky Henderson has said it is highly likely he will return to Sandown to take part in the re-scheduled Fighting Fifth.

If big CONSTITUTION HILL does run, he will have a little over two weeks to recover in time for his main target - the Christmas Hurdle. Given he’s in such good form now, there is no reason in Nicky’s mind, other than the ground, as to why CONSITUTION HILL wouldn’t be able to handle the quicker than normal turnaround.

Nicky has also decided the Fighting Fifth is the ‘perfect’ prep for SHISHKIN ahead of his King George target.

DISCO DAVE

Retired champ Davy Russell is set to compete on Ireland’s Dancing With The Stars.

Davey joins Frankie Dettori in the short list of jockeys (at the end of their careers) bidding to get a bit more air time and money in the bank. A smart move perhaps but let’s hope he stays in longer than Frankie.

On that note, how the hell did Frankie Dettori get booted off I’m A Celeb first? Minimal air time probably played a part but there is a sense he suffered from the publics assumption he was a strong fave for the show and therefore didn’t need the votes.

Poor old Frankie, he shouldn’t have gone first.
