Gm, Equinauts
He won and won well, but because he didn’t land the punters their distance bets there is a divide in opinion on how good CONSTITUTION HILL can be on the flat.
We give our thoughts below.
Let’s dive in.
HEADLINE ROUNDUP
🏇PUSHED OUT
The traffic on the motorways was basically standstill yesterday afternoon, the average person loses all ability to drive in the rain, so we pulled into Kempton late with the first race already underway. No bother, the card was crap and if it wasn’t for one horse, we wouldn’t have gone. We were there for the 19.30 and the 19.30 only.
As was every one in Surrey it seemed.
Kempton’s car park was packed and our space at the back and the long walk to reception was a brilliant reminder of the sheer weight of the pull of CONSTITUTION HILL.
We wondered how far he’d pull Ryan into the lead too. Surely yesterday’s distance markets was the most pondered bet of the year? In O&T it’s the only thing people were talking about. Comparing prices, sharing opinions and executing their trades.
We said 10 to every one who asked us lol.
The atmosphere was electric last night and it was from the start of the pre’s to the moment he galloped over the line.
The celebrations were somewhat muted for the size of the crowd though. Most did cheer but we think not half as loudly as they should have done. We imagine every one there had given money to the bookies having expected a repeat of Southwell.
The short walk from track to the winners through ice cold air allowed punters to quickly clear their heads, forget about the bet and allow themselves to give CONSTITUTION HILL the rapturous applause he deserved.
In short, he didn’t win as well as everyone expected him too and it has since divided opinion on how good, at 9yo, he can be on the flat.
We thought it was a very, very good performance. When Ryan steered him out to allow him to see the open track in front of him, and he simply took off.
He raced under hands and heels. Or was it just hands? We don’t know what pressure Ryan was giving him, if at all and Hendo’s post-race comments about a handicap mark make us think they left A LOT in the tank:
So, there is a strong possibility CONSTITUTION HILL is a lot better than what was on display last night. We did hear Ryan in the de-brief say he’d improve…Ryan knows full well he’s as fit as a flea and 9yo, it basically says he was no where near full send.
Lot’s on X are posting run data such as speed and stride length. Paralysis by analysis sometimes, but we did like looking at his top speed, which was faster than Southwell and Moore’s feedback was that trip was perfect. He’s quick.
And there was every one thinking he’d need a stayers race!
He’s the fastest jumps horse in the world serving it up to the flat, and we love to see it. How far he can go in this sphere at his age we don’t know but one thing we are certain of is that he will continue to draw in the crowds. He will continue to carry racing. He will continue to be THE horse every one wants to see.
CONSTITUTION HILL is horse racing.
Well done, big lad.
🧠ALBERT EINSTEIN
The Daily Luck or Luck on a weekday or whatever his one of many self-branded companies is called (we genuinely can’t keep up with all the Nick Lucks), got Aidan O’Brien on the phone yesterday who confirmed that the entry in the Curragh’s GLADNESS on Saturday was indeed intentional and will remain an option for their star horse.
A surprise to many owed to the fact Aidan normally sends his horses straight to the Guineas to get them fit for their next assignment - the Derby.
This year is a little different. Their best horse ALBERT will never go to the Derby. He’s too fast for that and that means his big target is the Guineas.
The fact Aidan is considering giving him a prep run Saturday is beyond bullish - he means business.
We’ve already declared our intention to get a bit of exposure on him for the big race. we have him at a price and will continue to back him with other players until the race so we can effectively get a levered free swing at him.
If, and this is a big if, he is as good as Aidan says, then he could be the next FRANKEL.
We can hear you sniggering. That’s a huge statement from us, fair.
But one day there WILL be a horse bred to be as good as FRANKEL and the chances are it will come from Ballydoyle who have over half a century of practice in producing the worlds best equine athletes. It just makes sense.
If he doesn’t meet the hype, then so be it, that’s horse racing and it would be just another losing bet whilst we all wait for FRANKEL II.
But if he does win… the story we can tell about backing him will almost be better than the payday!
All we know at this very moment in time is that he is very good. They changed his name for gods sake. He wasn’t supposed to be called ALBERT EINSTEIN until they realised how good he was. It’s scary that with all the ammo they have at home, he still hasn’t come off the bridle.
The proof will be in the Guineas.
Ya’ll who oppose our view might be right though. He might simply be too quick for the race.
But if he goes close and fades in the last bit of the race to get chinned (like most people seem to think he will), then you can sure as hell you’ll get your money back at a price in the St James’s at Royal Ascot where the bend will mean he gets the mile. That’s where we’d send him anyway.
That’s for then, and right now we’re betting he gets Newmarket’s famous straight mile.
As of this morning ALBERT EINSTEIN has been DECLARED for the Gladness and Ryan Moore has ditched the Dubai World Cup to ride him.
We will be watching. Over to you, ALBERT!
☔RAINING ROCKETS
A great headline, if we do say so ourselves.
Dubai has had a tough time recently. It was bombed for one, that’s no good (understatement of the week) and now it’s being bombarded by… storms!
There’s even a bloody tornado warning today:
There is A LOT of rain about to land in one go and that might have a serious impact on the going for the Dubai World Cup set to take place tomorrow.
We’ll keep watching for the updates but if you are planning to bet on the Tote and take advantage of the World Pool, then be careful…for the track might turn into a pool!
If the ground does turn to slop out there you can bet your bottom dollar we’ll find some plays so make sure you’re signed up to the Tote and we’ll hit the World Pool.
