When looking like he'd bolt in, BRADSELL blew up in a BIG way stopping to a crawl half a furlong to the line. Cue rational brain shouting 'I TOLD YOU HE'D NEED THE RUN!'.
A promising run displaying his natural raw speed, he'll come on for that and be one to catch next time. He MIGHT, go to Sandown before his Commonwealth bid at Royal Ascot.
Despite him working powerfully at home, he should have been just a watch yesterday, but as mentioned - he's been great for BGP Capital so owed nothing. CHINDIT should have just been the single too instead of messing about with the rev fc but, it's always easier after the race.
The star of the day was our boy COLTRANE. The biggest, most backward yearling ever to walk through BGP HQ.
Wow did he win so well. Effortless.
Best horse we’ve ever had, COLTRANE pisses up.

He's got better and better with age and being by MASTERCRAFTSMAN will continue to do so. He'll be the staying star this year.
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2023 champion stayer and BGP’s flagship horse:
COLTRANE.

The horse he is set to ride is Richard Spencer’s SWEET HARMONY.
Done it nicely! 5th on debut at Ascot last time, Sweet Harmony gets off the mark in good style at @GTYarmouthRaces for @Richspencer89 and @ONaillers2010...

Having taken the Brocklesby on DODDIE’S IMPACT, the leading apprentice rider will ride the 100/1 shot against the leading jockeys of the sport, but does he have a chance?
Well, she is a NO NAY NEVER out of a Group-placed mare in LAST WALTZ who raced up to 1m2f, so everything says she'll love the trip.
Unfortunately, she hasn’t beaten or finished behind much so this could be a tough assignment, still, it’s great experience for Billy who has a bright future.

Royal Ascot goes full international
Royal Ascot has attracted the support of overseas runners for years now with Wesley Ward almost making it his annual holiday, however, other overseas trainers are registering interest for this year.

The interesting contender on the list is CLASSIC CAUSEWAY who could be set for a tilt at the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes won last year by COROEBUS.
Having beaten STONE AGE and NATIONS PRIDE in the Belmont Derby last year, the GIANT’S CAUSEWAY four-year-old has raced twice this second finishing second in a handicap in March and is set to be a runner at Royal Ascot.
Trainer Kenny McPeek said: "He is going for a prep race in Kentucky on June 3 in the Arlington Stakes and, if he runs well there, we will point him towards the Prince of Wales’s Stakes.
"I think the turf is his preferred surface but equally he is a horse who has to have the tactics his own way. If he has time to breathe on the front, he can be very tough to catch, as he showed in the Belmont Derby last year.”
Ascot notes
COLTRANE stamps authority
Dare we say, yesterday was a BIG changing of the guard.
BGP graduate CONTRANE put in a superb effort while in the “form of his life” to beat the well-fancied TRUESHAN in the Sagaro Stakes.
Oisin Murphy hails COLTRANE as in the “form of his life” following his brilliant Sagaro Stakes victory.
Dream trip, great turn of foot, and will come on for the performance fitness-wise.
Have to be very impressed with that performance.

The Andrew Balding-trained six-year-old is now a 4/1 shot for the Ascot Gold Cup with just EMILY DICKINSON ahead of him in the market. Lol.
"I think he could be a top stayer" - @oismurphy was impressed with that! @MCYeeehaaa

But, it seems like TRUESHAN is done at the game on the flat as trainer Alan King has said he is a strong possibility to head over jumps in the Autumn.
"There's a strong possibility you will see him over hurdles in the autumn"

Is this the right call though.
Considering his defeat to RAJINSKY of all horses before Ascot and his fairly disappointing effort yesterday, he looks regressive. PRINCESS ZOE has tried the hurdles route and she's done okay, perhaps not quite living up to expectations and it is probably odds-on that TRUESHAN does the same.
The softer National Hunt ground would suit his action and running style, but looking at his race yesterday and he was beaten from a long way out and one does have to question if in his head he still wants to race.
Cash for CASH?
Yesterday's horse to perhaps keep an eye on is CASH (pictured here as a yearling).
He ran on well behind our fancy CHINDIT and the son of Shamardal has only ran 4 times in his life, a maiden at Newmarket, a Classic trial at Sandown, a Kempton Listed race and yesterday in the Queen Anne Trial which is known as the Paradise Stakes.
His second in the Sandown Classic trial was behind WESTOVER who then placed in the Derby itself and won the Irish Derby. CASH still looks a little green in his races, he doesn’t settle as much as Simcock or Spencer would like him to. He looks like a horse that could step up to 1m2f, but they’ll go a yard slower so maybe the mile is his best trip; a stiff mile. His dam won 3 races at 3 and 4 years she is by MARIAS MON who is also the dam sire of ALMANZOR, AIR FORCE BLUE and USHERETTE. His grandam was third in the Group 3 Lancashire Oaks, and she is in turn a full sister to CASEY TIBBS who was second in the Gr1 Secretariat Stakes.

13.40 Salisbury
KALIK is all 2yo speed. His sire is PRINCE OF LIR who won the Norfolk at Royal Ascot. His mum has produced OSCULA who was Gr1 placed in France, Gr2 placed at Newmarket and Gr3 placed at Royal Ascot as a 2yo. 60k foal to a 300k yearling.
MATTERS MOST is by ADVERTISE who was second to CALYX as a 2yo at Royal Ascot. His dam is SQUASH who was 2nd in the Gr3 Nell Gwyn. He was a 135k foal to 500k yearling.
LIV MY LIFE was bred at Ringfort Stud, who sired the Group 1 winner MINZAAL last year, as well as many other top class horses. This filly is by AWTAAD who generally want cut in the ground and she is out of a GALILEO mare. Fourth on debut at Newmarket.
CHINESE KNOT has Oisin on board. She’s By KODIAC and cost 70,000gns. Her sister by SOCIETY ROCK won 2 races at 2 years and placed in Group 3 company. Her mother is a sister to WINDSOR KNOT who won the Solario Stakes as a juvenile. Rod Millman is a very good trainer of 2yo’s but she's a filly and might just find the boys too strong.
The boys KALIK and MATTERS MOST head the market and it looks a two horse race.
Risk on
15.25 ROARING LEGEND
Proposing a max bet on this lad. We've backed him in from 7/2 and is still available now at 13/8 across all books.
He's come on a lot and has been working all over stable mates like WONDER LEGEND who looked a very good horse when winning last week.
Balding's is nothing special and the other looks out of it making ROARING LEGEND a max bet.
What is a max bet?
It's not everything you own. It's the maximum stake you allow to risk vs bank availability, 5% max by BGP Capital standards. £5k bank? 5% is £250.
You need to manage risk by limiting bet size to a fixed % of your bank. The reality is, if you have an edge that'll prove profitable over say, 100 trades but there will be times when you have a string of losses - could be 10 losing bets in a row, it happens.
To avoid blowing the account, managing risk to a fixed, low percentage is the only way to stay in the game.
Staking and banking
There was a lot of positive feedback recently from people benefitting from our staking advice. Well, and general bank roll tips too. So we'll keep it here as a reminder.
If you want to take punting seriously and use racing as a value add to your life, keep a betting bank, protect it at all times (none of this 'ah we're on a bull run, I'll stick a few stupid bets on') and stick to risking the % stakes, upping notional as the bank grows. Betting banks will change your punting forever.
Help keep a healthy bank by betting less and using the TOTE Fantasy game to feed the chimp.
