Let’s dive in!
HEADLINE ROUNDUP
HE’S BACK?!
There is something quite nice about seeing Paul Nicholls have a nice horse, and yesterday, NO DRAMA THIS END showed the world that he is exactly that.
It was bold from Nicholls, really bold, to send him into a Grade 2 at Cheltenham on really soft ground for his hurdles debut and yet, the son of WALK IN THE PARK travelled like the best horse, jumped well, and powered home - it was really never in doubt.
The unanimous vote on Racing X was that this was a nice horse, but just as we were taking stock of the performance and wondering whether he can win the Challow,
big Paul only went did it didn’t. He bloody compared him to DENMAN again.
STOP IT, PAUL.
Who has he done this with in the past? BRAVEMANSGAME is the obvious one, and to be fair to Nicholls, he turned out to be a nice one. Not DENMAN, of course, but very nice (who landed us a touch in the Challow too).
Nicholls just can’t help himself sometimes and he was clearly very emotional and excited yesterday which honestly, is nice to see, even if that crazy b*astard has now made a rod for his own back! He’ll be fully aware of the repercussions it might have to his reputation should this guy not deliver.
But who cares and you know what!? Paul’s probably right! Go shout him from the rooftops and enjoy him, Paul. It’s the excitement for new heroes which gets people to the races.
Back to the horse. To be fair, we see something in this lad that is just a bit different to the typical Nicholls horse. He doesn’t look a big boat!
Okay he might be a three-mile chaser of the future, but he has plenty of speed, and he looked class yesterday. Almost like a Willie Mullins type horse. Does that make sense?
He could be very smart.
Anyway, he’s off to the Challow next where he is bound to meet STARZAND and SOBER GLORY, turning it into a nice little race! We’ve got a bloody good punting record in this race an right now we’re thinking Nicholls is the answer again.
NO DRAMA THIS END wasn’t the only big performance from yesterday, as LEAU DU SUD absolutely bulldozed his way into the champion chase scene… in devastating fashion.
But we’ll talk about him in Monday’s newsletter!
