HEADLINE ROUND UP

DAIRE DEVIL

NATIONAL HUNT RACING IS BACK. Check out these absolute scenes yesterday:

Poor old conditional jockey Daire Davis had a bit of a nightmare yesterday as he was dismounted from his ride in spectacular fashion.

While riding FAHA BELLE for boss Fergal O’Brien, the 7lb claimer caused David Bass to be unseated from VON HALLERS before nearly running himself out. Davis was then chucked from his own horse and briefly rode KIT’S COTY before falling to the ground, and knocking off TOM BELLAMY from his mount in the same moment.

Obviously he’s been handed a big ban for improper riding and he’s now meme:

Bizarrely, this was not the only perplexing incident in British racing yesterday as over at Carlisle, a starter was run over by the field for the 17.05.

RETIREMENTS

This season’s 2000 Guineas winner, CHALDEAN, has been retired by Juddmonte and will join his sire FRANKEL at Banstead Manor Stud.

The Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes winner cost 550,000gns as a foal when purchased by Juddmonte from Whitsbury Manor Stud, though he was disappointing on his last two starts in Deauville for the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat and Ascot for the Group 1 QEII Stakes.

He is not the only high-profile horse who has retired as news on X suggests that a number of Ballydoyle fillies have retired to become broodmares including NEVER ENDING STORY, MEDITATE, and EMILY DICKINSON.

NOT THAT IMPERVIOUS

It was a day of mixed emotions for J P McManus yesterday as it was revealed that contrary to her name, last year’s Grade 2 Mares’ Chase winner, IMPERVIOUS, is likely to miss the season due to injury.

The seven-year-old by SHANTOU is unbeaten in five and took home both Grade 2 mares’ races at the big spring festivals of Cheltenham and Punchestown. However, due to a front joint injury, the wonder mare will remain in Martinstown for the foreseeable future.

That being said, the green and gold silks of JP could have another mare to rely on in the division this season as LIMERICK LACE bolted up on her seasonal reappearance.

She is now best-priced 12/1 for the Grade 2 Mares’ Chase at Cheltenham in March, though there is plenty of water to pass under the bridge until then.

TODAYS BEST STATS

Racing X says Franny Norton gave yesterdays stat horse an absolute stinker.

Only two stat today and that’s for:

The combo of Fahey and and Keith Donoghue - they’re 5 from 14 all time together, pretty bullish. Fahey bringing TOTO TOO over from Ireland for the 15.55.

16.30 STRICTLYADANCER is staying strong in the market. He’s two from two at Cheltenham and won this race in ‘21. Christian can plot one.

RISK ON

It’s really tough today so we’ll play the TOTE FANTASY to not give any back and also have plays on the stat horses because one if @Finndogbgp’s NAP and the other for Christian Williams looks a stinky plot.

Any other bets will be posted on X @equinties.
