HEADLINE ROUNDUP
TOUGH BLOW
Coming into the Breeders’ Cup, we knew there were going to be a few non-runner announcements, and we got them last night.
PRECISE was ruled out of the Juvenile Fillies’ Turf due to precisely 11 coughs, and ARIZONA BLAZE was scratched from the Turf Sprint that is happening today, serving a big blow to Kia who was bullish on his chances.
We didn’t however the first ‘ruled out’ post of the day to involve a Paul Nicholls horse, and a big one at that!
❌ Caldwell Potter will miss the rest of the season

Alas, this was the case, as Nicholls confirmed on X that CALDWELL POTTER would miss the season which is a massive shame to jumps fans because, love or hate Nicholls, CALDWELL POTTER looks very good.
In a statement on Twitter, Nicholls said: “It’s with great disappointment I am informing everyone that after Caldwell Potter’s gallop at Newbury on Monday, he sustained a small injury which, after consultation with vets and his owners, will mean he will miss the rest of this season . Obviously it’s a big blow for everyone involved with him but he will be back.”
Yep, pretty brutal stuff. Just when we thought they were out of the woods with CALDWELL POTTER’s feet issues, we start this campaign with a season-ending injury for the Grade 1-winning Cheltenham Festival hero. He was potentially Nicholls’ Gold Cup horse for next season, if not this, but a setback like this could well stop him from these blue riband races going forward.
Rest up, CP.
COOL START
In slightly better news, ROMEO COOLIO got off the mark over fences at Down Royal. A fair few fences were omitted due to low sun, but the ones he did jump he looked smart.
🗣️ Jack Kennedy on ROMEO COOLIO, via @RacingTV:
“Long, short, whatever you want, he can do it all. When you’re long, he’s very measured. Touch wood, he seems a natural.
When asked about the Drinmore, he added: “I imagine that’s where we’ll see him next.”

He will obviously have sterner tasks going forward, and that will start with the Drinmore Novices’ Chase at Fairyhouse next month but what’s interesting about yesterday is what Gordon Elliott said after. He thinks he is more of a two-and-a-half miler, rather than a two miler, and he also doesn’t see him going up to three miles this season. This leaves him without a race at Cheltenham, and we know how much Gordo loves a Cheltenham runner/winner.
Could it be Scilly Isles followed by Aintree, with no stop off in Gloucestershire? If Elliott is serious about him being one for 2m4f, then quite possibly!
CLEVER BETTING
Before we dive in, we’re going to highlight more tools punters should be picking up to give themselves a better chance to succeed.
Today, the Tote have guaranteed a 100k placepot at Ascot - if you consider yourself a judge or merely even a fan who just follows the big races on a Saturday, you’d be a fool not to play it. The value is massive.
The do football promo’s and the like too, but that’s not our bag to be honest!

Don’t forget, by opening an account you’ll have access to the deep liquidity of the US pools tonight for the Breeders Cup.
Thanks for advice on the tote, got 20-1 instead of 14 on Balantina
