Is anyone else feeling incredibly bullish about this week?
We have the King's coronation. We've have the Guineas. We have ANOTHER bank holiday. We have some good weather forecast. We have the BGP hall of famers COLTRANE and BRADSELL back. AND WE HAVE A MAX BET TOMORROW.
Woof. LFG
Big TOTE Fantasy competition today but you should play it anyway. It helps to cage the emotional chimp shouting at you to BET MORE.
Now, let’s dive in.
Headline round up
No fun at the fair
A few very boring and precious trainers who attended Windsor’s bank holiday Monday meeting were in uproar over the last few days as they slammed the decision made by the course to have a funfair situated near the stables.
🗣 "Mad, stupid and dangerous"
🎡 Windsor's decision to have a fairground-style ride near the stables during Monday's meeting has been slammed by trainers

During the meeting, a few horses were reported to have reared up in the paddock when being mounted and trainer Stuart Williams said that “all the horses” in the six-furlong sprint won by INDIAN CREEK were “wired before they got to the start”.
With horses so you get the full picture- far too close 😳
Windsor racecourse showing that they have both horse welfare and staff safety at the bottom of their list when organising a race day.

Plenty of trainers were apparently furious at the decision to have the rides so close to the horses but Liam Johnson, executive director at Windsor, hit back and said: “The funfair rides were located yesterday in the same place as they have been for a number of years but we would, of course, shut down anything that was reported to us to be causing an issue immediately.” An interesting point considering lots of racecourses do have funfair rides on track for family days.
There’s a funfair at Bellewstown races every year it’s all part of the atmosphere and doesn’t bother the horses

Animal rising ARE BACK
There's no stopping at just the Grand National. Animal Rising are set to assault Derby day and continue with their ambition to disrupt racing.
One will be forgiven for questioning Animal Rising's agenda given the Derby is a flat race; no 'cruel' man-made obstacle's to jump, so why do Animal Rising think the Derby now needs to be stopped? Well, they're not stopping at racing.
If you go on their website, despite agenda seemingly down to individual interpretation as messages are convoluted and claims spurious, there is one constant theme present on every page: maximum disruption to anyone who keeps animals.
Their site narrative circles back to climate change and it seems like they're effectively trying to fast forward social and government change towards some meat free, green, friendlier world. In one word, utopic. It's admirable and in theory no one can deny it hasn't got the right intentions (people need to eat less meat and climate change is real) but let's be honest, execution is poor and unreasonable, they're led by idiots who can't put together a credible argument and if we're realistic, it just ain't gonna happen like this. Plus, people like eating bacon too much.
Racing will always be attacked hard because it's so heavily televised and offers a perfect platform for promotion.
Some pink-haired hippy with more pronouns than an online identity thief could literally go drive out to the depths of rural Berkshire and sabotage Carl Hester's dressage routine. The trouble is the only people who'd see it would be Carl's partner Ben and his group of incredibly discerning and good looking friends who like nothing more than to quaff champagne in the sun next to the arena.
A dancing horse has got to be in Animal Rising's definition of 'animal exploitation' but they won't come out to the sticks to ruin our party.
They need to be on the big screens. They're attention seeking. They're fame hungry. They need to be seen NOW. They're hitting one the most televised events in the world for maximum effect. It will be another exhausting process to stop them, but unfortunately given the size and location of the Surrey track, the Derby will be a pretty easy target. We don’t want to give these people too much airtime because that is all they want so here are just a few interesting things that have come up since the last time this subject was featured:
This is a shocking real-world retort to Animal Rising's stated goal of rewilding 70%+ of the agricultural land in the UK/Ireland and releasing animals onto this rewilded land.
Before one even considers the catastrophic impact this action would have on rural economies, it is… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Looking at their Instagram, this time last year they were focused on disrupting dairy aisles and pouring milk out on the floor of Harrods etc… with no real focus on racing. It clearly didn’t promote their cause far or well enough so they’ve switched tact.

Big race previews
15.50 Commonwealth Cup Trial
Our man BRADSELL is back at Ascot where he was triumphant for the BGP community.
We even backed him first time out (he was prepped by the very person who prepped the BGP Capital horses this year).
A newsletter 1-2 in the Coventry Stakes as BRADSELL wins eased down with Brocklesby winner, PERSIAN FORCE in behind. BOOM.

His Gr2 Coventry stakes win reads exceptionally well now; PERSIAN FORCE, ROYAL SCOTSMAN and BLACKBEARD were all in behind. He has not been seen since sustaining an injury in the Gr1 Phoenix Stakes.
Charlie Appleby saddles MISCHIEF MAGIC who we’ve had our fun with. Appleby has said that he is suited to better ground and a larger field, but ‘will come on for the run’. Carries a 4lbs penalty. TRILLIUM also shoulders a 4lbs penalty. The daughter of NO NAY NEVER won the the Group 2 Flying Childers last year and looks a sprinter that could have a big season. Has to learn to settle over 6 furlongs. MARBAAN won the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood like a really good horse. But lost his way thereafter, the Fellowes team are reverting to sprinting. The Vintage stakes normally points to milers, GALILEO GOLD, PINATUBO and HIGHLAND REEL have all won in the past. Spencer will no doubt ride him cold. COLD CASE pedigree is all speed, by SHOWCASING out of a DREAM AHEAD mare. A very good third in the Gimcrack behind NOBLE STYLE and MARSHMAN. He also notched up a couple of wins in the Doncaster 2yo Stakes and Redcar 2yo Trophy.
Our view: BRADSELL’s win in the Coventry Stakes over course and distance still sticks with us. We would love to see Holly Doyle in full drive mode and he's supposedly BOUNCING. LFG BRADSELL!
16.25 Queen Anne Trial
Richard Hannon is doubly represented here. CHINDIT and LUSAIL are the two highest rated horses here, it’s the forecast. CHINDIT was fourth in the Queen Anne last year behind BAAEED, beaten 8 lengths. He won on his seasonal debut last year beating the reopposing TEMPUS. He likes Ascot; ran 4 times and winning twice.
LUSAIL hit the frame in two Group 1s last year, the St James Palace at Ascot and the Prix Jean Prat in France. A year older and possibly a little stronger he should be finishing off these races. James Doyle in the controls. RAADOBARG is back training in Newmarket after a stint in Ireland. The son of NIGHT OF THUNDER is a little exposed now, he has to improve a bit to get in the mix. But he has had a recent run at Newmarket to wipe away any cobwebs.
TEMPUS reps the Archie Watson stable who are going great guns at the moment. He found the Royal Hunt Cup too tough last year but did improve to winning at Ascot in July and his biggest success was in France when he won the Group 3 Prix Quincey. CASH is very lightly raced, he’s only ran the 3 times. His second to WESTOVER at Sandown last year looks Group class but I wonder if he’ll use this as a stepping stone for the season and possibly stepping up in trip.
Our view: Hannon rev forecast. CHINDIT just edges it over LUSAIL.

NEW FEATURE - YOUNG BLOOD
Notes on pedigree, attractive crosses and sales trends
14.05 Ascot
MAXIMUM IMPACT could hardly have been more impressive on his debut winning by 12 lengths. The son of HAVANNA GREY, who has made an enviable start to his stud career toyed with his rivals. He’s out of a TEOFILO mare who won at 2 and TEOFILO had a superb 2022 being the broodmare sire of both Guineas winners COROEBUSs and CACHET amongst a number of other good horses.
ACTION POINT's sire BLUE POIUNT holds the track record over 6f at the course set on the same card in 2017 when he beat HARRY ANGEL. That was the start of the love affair BLUE POINT had with Ascot as he went on to win 3 times at Group 1 level at the track. ACTION POINT has some big shoes to fill but his debut has worked out well. The third should have won nto and the fourth did win.
BALAGH - a son of DANDY MAN, his dam is a full sister to LIBRISA BREEZE who was the Champion Older Sprinter in Europe in 2017. Trainer won this race last year, they clearly think he’s a Royal Ascot candidate and the race will give him track experience.
THE LINE - Caravaggio now stands in Japan, he’s sired TENEBRISM, AGARTHA and last years German 2000 Guineas winner MALJOOM (we backed) but he wasn’t hitting the target consistently enough for Coolmore. THE LINE is out of an unraced SHAMARDAL who has produced a Listed winner.
A small field but a very competitive race. MAXIMUM IMPACT didn’t beat much on debut but the manner in which he travelled was eye catching. With that experience under his belt he’s the one they have to beat. One to watch next time is Balding's BALAGH who is good but as we saw yesterday with yard debutants, might need the run.

Use the TOTE Fantasy and don't go mad with staking today as the max bet runs tomorrow.
14.40 DANCING GODDESS
He's the one to beat today. Full bet at even money.
15.50 BRADSELL
Owes us nothing - we gambled him on debut and baked him at Royal Ascot. Supposedly back flying. BGP Capital half bet at 10/3.
18.00 DELLA
Bouncing at home and she should go very close today. Filly so anything can happen and she's drifting slightly so half bet at 11/4. Could go smaller and use DANCING GODDESS at lev.
Finndog's NAP is QUINTUS ARRIUS in the 16.00.
If you're wondering if we're backing COLTRANE today, he's a horse who put BGP Capital on the map. We'll always be with him but his races are normally targeted later in the season. The Hannon fc in the aforementioned preview is worth a small play too.
Staking and banking
There was a lot of positive feedback recently from people benefitting from our staking advice. Well, and general bank roll tips too. So we'll keep it here as a reminder.
If you want to take punting seriously and use racing as a value add to your life, keep a betting bank, protect it at all times (none of this 'ah we're on a bull run, I'll stick a few stupid bets on') and stick to risking the % stakes, upping notional as the bank grows. Betting banks will change your punting forever.
Help keep a healthy bank by betting less and using the TOTE Fantasy game to feed the chimp.
