HEADLINE ROUND UP

LOTTERY SCRATCH CARD

Before racing even got underway at the Breeders’ Cup yesterday, controversy hit the World Championships hard.

Multiple European runners were scratched from their targeted races – including hot fave RIVER TIBER from the Juvenile Turf – by the on-course vets, though the reasons were not made public as to why they couldn’t race.

Reports circulating Twitter suggested that Aidan O’Brien lost his head at the Breeders’ Cup vets and the same could be said for the owners of GIVEMETHEBEATBOYS, Jessica Harrington’s two-year-old by BUNGLE INTHEJUNGLE, who was unable to take part in the Juvenile Turf Sprint.

Con Marnane, one of the part-owners, said: “I’ve had him since he was a foal – I just cannot understand this. The horse was moving like a ballet dancer; he should have been in Swan Lake.”

Another one of the members of his ownership team is Irene Sands, who said: “He’s in incredible condition and we couldn’t have asked for better. As owners, you can only ever ask that they come with their best foot forwards and the Harringtons have done that. Jessica Harrington said it very well, she said that, at the end of the day, vets aren’t any different to any other profession; they all have different opinions.”

As Kevin Blake said, this will be a talking point over the next couple of days, with some even suggesting that Aidan O’Brien is not in a rush to bring his horses back to the Breeders’ Cup.

SIRE RELOCATION

Two up-and-coming National Hunt sires, TRIPLE THREAT and JEU ST ELOI, have been relocated to stand at a new place ahead of 2024 breeding season. Starting with the latter, JEU ST ELOI, the 12-year-old stallion has had runners since the 2019-20 jumps season experiencing good success with Paul Nicholls’ BLUEKING D’OROUX and IT’S FOR ME.

The son of SAINT DES SAINTS will move from Haras de Cercy to Rathbarry & Glenview Studs in County Cork to stand alongside BLUE BRESIL, SHIROCCO, and EAGLES BY DAY.

As for the former, TRIPLE THREAT, he is set to be relocated to Capital Stud’s Kilkenny base in Ireland to stand under the farm’s National Hunt arm.

The French sire has seen SPIRIT D’AUNOU score with success for Gary Moore over in the UK since his runners began to hit the track in the 2020/21 season.
