Let’s not talk about the football, let’s talk about something more positive?

How about Norm’s bull run…

We’ve NEVER seen an ROI like this:

We’re hoping he’s going to make it 6 in a row today so let’s dive in.

HEADLINE ROUNDUP

BLUE ARROW

“He’d be a horse that would definitely work back from the Guineas.”

That was the quote from Charlie Appleby after ANCIENT TRUTH won the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

In fairness to the two-year-old by DUBAWI, he had a few things against him. He was keen in the early parts of the race, he hung to the left, and he looked a bit off the bit three furlongs from home.

So, on that basis, it was a good performance.

It seems as if bookmakers agreed with this statement as he was brought into 10/1 for the 2000 Guineas next year, however, we have some reservations.

Firstly, in a better class of race over a mile, he won’t be able to pull his head off and then race off the bridle to get to the front. Better horses will find him out.

Secondly, the strength of this year’s Superlative Stakes can be questioned.

Last year, CITY OF TROY beat HAATEM. In 2022, ISAAC SHELBY won. And in 2021, NATIVE TRAIL just prevailed.

All of those mentioned horses went on to good things, and while we aren’t saying that ANCIENT TRUTH won’t go on to do something similar, one would wonder how strong beating SEAGULLS ELEVEN, WIMBLEDON HAWKEYE, and COLUMNIST will turn out to be in time.

So, ANCIENT WISDOM is certainly an exciting horse to watch, but 10/1 for the Guineas? We’re not sure.

MORE KING GEORGE

Recently, we spoke about how AUGUSTE RODIN, CITY OF TROY, and REBEL’S ROMANCE could all be heading to the King George in two weeks.

However, we could be in for more talent as AMBIENTE FRIENDLY and BLUESTOCKING are potential runners in the big Ascot 10-furlong Group 1.

This is big news as we could be in for a proper, proper race, but would either have a solid chance?

Preference may sit with the filly, BLUESTOCKING, who ran to an RPR of 120 when winning the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh at the end of the month.

She also bolted up like a good horse in the Group 2 Middleton Stakes and last year, her form with WARM HEART and SAVETHELASTDANCE looks good when you consider what WARM HEART did, especially abroad at the end of the year when getting chin Ed by INSPIRAL:

While AMBIENTE FRIENDLY may need to find a little bit on form when comparing against some of the more established stars, a drop back from 12 furlongs would be preferable. Still, he wouldn’t be a strong fancy at this stage.

SHAGGAS NOT QUITE GETTING THEM UP

We’ve been saying it all week, William Haggas’ yard is taking a big and unusual down turn.

The yard had a few fave’s well beaten early last week which could have been forgiven until HAMISH as a no show in the Princess of Wales’s Stakes.

Only 5 winners from the last 49 runners, that’s absurdly low for a yard who normally are rock solid for betting purposes.

Something to consider when reading the cards in the coming weeks.

WEEKEND EYE-CATCHERS

Yesterday we were treated to this performance over in France:

But let’s try find the less obvious ones…

OUR TERMS – FRIDAY 16.10 NEWMARKET

One certain eye-catcher was two-year-old OUR TERMS who went into the tracker after Friday’s debut.

By WOOTTON BASSETT, he is a half to three black-type horses and his dam won the Group 2 Lowther Stakes in 2011, so he is a nicely bred sort.

Sent off 16/1 for Richard Hannon, price doesn’t matter for that yard and he travelled strongly into the race behind horses and when he went to make his move two furlongs from home, he was clattered by THUNDER WONDER who shifted out to his right.

With a clearer passage, he would have finished closer than his 4th (behind a rocket of Gosden’s) says on paper and he’s one to watch on quicker ground.

RISK ON

18.10 SHEILA’S PARADISE & 20.50 DUE TO HENRY

Catching a form line here - Eve’s debuted when SHEILA’S PARADISE was having his third run, both crossed the line together… that’s okay form and they should each be the best horses in their respective races. 10/30 Hannon’s, 9/4 Eve’s and 13/1 double! Hope that’s three good bets.
