Equinties

Gm Equinauts

I spent ages working on BGP Capital last night, finalising the finer details and I’m ngl, I’m fucking excited. There is absolutely nothing like it available on the market.

Full details will be available online this week for people to scrutinise and you know what, I can’t wait because even my haters will soon realise it’s a business model made by a punter, for the punter.

There’ll be tiered pricing structure giving you access to a sliding scale of features but ultimately priced up so that everyone can afford the opportunity to not miss it. It’s because of this, the business model will only work at scale. The greater our purchase power, the higher the probability of achieving significant returns (and land some big gambles along the way).

As mentioned, full detail will be made available this week, but to give you an idea on cost, the minimum investment is ‘Handicapper’ level at £250 + VAT (£300) with maximum buy in, Group 1 level at £750 + VAT (£900). Naturally, you can buy more than once – the greater your initial stake, the higher the potential returns.

Regardless of initial stake, all members will have access to our owner’s platform, effectively a secure community hub where updates and event info will be posted as well as opportunity to meet and engage with other members. Prize money, queue jumps for race day badges, access to the gambling Discord channel and direct comms with BGP (inc. online betting mentoring/chimp management coaching) are other features available but restricted to certain membership levels.

Time to put the odds in your favour.

Now, let's dive in.

Headline roundup

MINZAAL breaks the record... or does he?

There was a timing failure in the Group 1 Haydock Sprint Cup. This is classic BHA behaviour as a spokesperson said: “Due to a timing failure an official time was not returned for this race...

As is usual process when there is a timing failure – which happens extremely rarely – the BHA requested a hand time from approved suppliers. Through this process, the BHA has registered a time as 68.44 seconds and therefore it can be confirmed that a course record was set.”

So, basically someone in the stands or wherever, maybe even at home, has timed the race on their stopwatch and that has been used as the official time for the Gr1 at Haydock on Saturday and as a result, MINZAAL was accoladed with breaking the track record in 1min 8.44sec.

But, big but, the Racing Post recorded a time of 1min 8.75sec and Timeform recorded a time of 1min 9.02sec. Someone’s wrong.

More misery for Haydock

Haydock Clerk of the Course, Kirkland (genuinely his first name) Tellwright had a bit of a nightmare on Saturday with 30 out of the 34 non-runners being withdrawn on account of the firm going. Now, I’m not a weather expert and I think we all know how hard it is to predict the weather, so I have to say I do have some sympathy for Kirkland on that account. But fuck me Haydock was a shocker on Saturday.

Maddy vs Kevin

Even if you had only spent the bare minimum amount of time in the fucked-up world of Racing Twitter, you’d have caught some sort of glimpse of the controversy ‘that’ article by Maddy Playle’s caused last week.

It’s not hard to interpret from the feedback that there were a few people who weren’t afraid to share their opinion (mostly opposing) on the piece – a large amount of which came from people who just read the title and instantly reached for the keyboard rather than looking at the entire piece (the headline writer has done Maddy here tbf).

Was the opinion bad? Probably not, it’s just a view and perhaps valid points to discuss further. Was the piece poorly executed? Probably yes – a lack of data used and 12 of the 17 paragraphs dedicated to stating why she is not a fan of Aidan O’Brien’s DENMARK after just one run in a maiden at Naas, where he won by three lengths, didn’t really bode well for a compelling case.

Why do we bring this up? Well, yesterday, Kevin Blake published an article on the AtTheRaces website around the same topic ‘Ballydoyle’s juveniles’ basically like racing journo’s version of a rapper’s diss response video (although he didn’t tag her in it, pussy).

In standard boring Blake format, the article scrutinises numbers and data, comparing Ballydoyle horses over the last eight years as well as a small section on pedigrees at the end. This is how each article compared the main AOB youngsters:

LITTLE BIG BEAR:

MP: Unsure if will train on.

KB: One of the best juveniles of recent decades, no joke.

BLACKBEARD:

MP: Unsure if will train on.

KB: One of the few AOB juveniles to reach an OR of 115+ by the start of September over the last decade.

AESOP’S FABLES:

MP: “Probably tops the pile.” – Now, whether she was referring to all of his two-year-olds when making this statement or just the middle-distance ones, I’m not too sure so work that out for yourself - I got a bit confused as surely the two previously mentioned are better horses on form and appearance?

KB: Excited about the new crop of No Nay Never’s, therefore, he is excited about this one.

ALFRED MUNNINGS

MP: Bitterly disappointing lto.

KB: The use of non-Coolmore sires such as his dad DUBAWI “seems unlikely to disappoint” when Ballydoyle reviews the season (same for AGE OF KINGS).

DENMARK

MP: Not a fan due to his greenness (it was his first run ffs).

KB: Same as the two previously mentioned, excited about the up-and-coming pedigrees.

That’s the summary, and I’m sure you can gather who is the optimist of the two. Disclaimer, this story wasn’t to take sides or hate on anyone, we were just very interested to compare both.

Further news but not really news news

Part owner of L’HOMME PRESSE, Andy Edwards, revealed that it would be unlikely that his star chaser would head to the Gr1 Betfair Chase in November OR the Gr1 King George on Boxing Day.

Eyes are seemingly already on Cheltenham in March, as he said: "The full intention is the Gold Cup. That is the target. We will work towards it and, as we did last year, we want to build his route in little steps - we don’t want to chuck him in the deep end too early."

He was a BGP Banker at the Festival last season, would he be your idea of a Gold Cup horse? (And just remember, it is September, so no one cares):

Risk on

15.35 NOVEMBA

Her form fucks and finally gets some ease in the ground. Dangers include UMM KULTHUM who will love the straight 7f so potential hedge. Full ew on the German raider at 4/1.

18.00 LUCKIN BREW

Ran well on debut and the form is very good. Didn’t progress next run but her experience will prove useful today. Half bet at 13/8.

20.30 MATCHED

This chap is the best bred in the race and now they’ve found his right trip, I can’t see him being beat. Full bet at 2’s.
