A look ahead at this weeks racing means we might be in for a bit of a boring few days until Saturday but that doesn’t mean owners aren’t collecting 6, potentially 7, yes 7 figure sums on bets landed.

God I can’t wait to unleash the BGP Capital weapons.

Let’s dive in.

Headline Roundup

Ding dong, bing bong (STEWARDS ENQUIRY)

The ex-jock turned outdoor furniture giant and racing owner Ed Babington has featured prominently in this newsletter before and he lands himself with a feature today for pulling off a monumental gamble yesterday, the likes that can only make you think ding fucking dong.

Babington, who successfully gambled MISSED THE CUT at last years Royal Ascot, landed a nice touch on the all-weather yesterday as two of his horses were smashed in and delivered at Chelmsford and Wolverhampton.

The first of which came in the day as THE IVY won the seven-furlong maiden fillies’ stakes for Jack Mitchell and the Crisfords, beating a good Balding horse (who’ll be winning soon).

The three-year-old filly by SHOWCASING had been a good third on her previous run in December before getting the business done yesterday – she’ll get a decent handicap mark you’d assume.

Fast-forward seven hours and Babington was back in the winner’s enclosure at Wolverhampton thanks to NOODLE MISSION for Michael Bell and Daniel Muscutt.

The three-year-old was making his first handicap appearance of his career (having finished a rotten seventh twice and then 11th in his three maiden runs) and didn’t come off the bridle yesterday to make a fucking mockery of his mark of 58. BING BONG STEWARDS ENQUIRY.

Some people, namely disgruntled racing twitter tipsters and non-owner punters will be outraged at this blatant cheating but, as an owner, I think fair fucking play.

This wasn’t the only gamble landed however, 30 minutes before Babington’s Wolverhampton runner, the Tony Carroll-trained TOPLIGHT was backed in from double-figure prices to be the 5/2 favourite and he duly obliged under Clifford Lee, which certainly pleased the TC super fan on Twitter.

FLOTUS’ breeding plans

Calling all FLOTUS fans, do you know what is next for the sprinting star?

The Simon & Ed Crisford-trained four-year-old has been retired by connections and is set to be covered in Ireland during the breeding season.

The Group 3 Summer Stakes victor at York was last seen finishing 6th in the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in November at lofty odds of 104/1 under Hollie Doyle, collecting just shy of £15k for the effort – this ticked her lifetime prize money total to just over £250,000 from two seasons of racing.

The four-year-old has reportedly joined the breeding ranks of her owner, Katsumi Yoshida, and she will be covered in the upcoming breeding season.

Good luck, FLOTUS!

Cheltenham Championship entries

Official entries for the Champion Chase, Gold Cup, and Ryanair were released yesterday with many expectations being met.

Willie Mullins has four of the 14 entered for the Champion Chase thanks to BLUE LORD, CHACUN POUR SOI, ante-post favourite ENERGUMENE, and GENTLEMAN DE MEE - SHISHKIN was not entered for the two-mile contest that he was pulled up in last year as he has been left in both the Ryanair and Gold Cup.

There were no big absentees from the big races, everyone expected to be there is there – BRAVEMANSGAME was taken out of the Ryanair so Paul Nicholls is throwing all his eggs into the Gold Cup basket.

Whip U-turn

The whip rules were reversed and now jocks can now give a horse a good slap both in the forehand and back hand… so just the forehand then!

Todays best stats

Probably nothing but still a stand-out stat, Dale Swift and Seb Spencer are a mental 2 from 3 at Newcastle all time. They pair up on NOOO MORE at a mega-price of 40/1. Unless the squeeze comes, ignore this yak.

BALLYBREEN is a regular in the 14.00 having won it in ‘20 and finishing a ‘staying on’ 6th in ‘21 off a high mark. He’s off only 3lbs above 2020’s winning mark.

Boughey lands > 1 in 3 at Newcastle and runs gambling owner Babington’s POCKET THE PACKET in the 14.20 who’s on a streak.

There are two Irish raiders today but the gamble is on PRESENTING DOYEN in the 15.00.

de Foy lands 1 in 3 at Kempton and runs EXPERT AGENT in the 19.00. Previous price movements suggest this could be a plot.

Risk on

Bad racing today, any bets will be posted on twitter late.
