HEADLINE ROUNDUP

CONDITIONS

So, with the big race previews to get through, we’ll start proceedings with a little update on what the conditions could be like today. At the time of writing (the night before), the ground at Ascot is Good, Good to soft in places, while Haydock Park is Good to Soft, Soft in places on the hurdles track and just Good to Soft on the chase track.

Based on those readings, CELTIC DINO, who we did a piece on earlier in the week, should have no issues with the ground at all today. However, we think rain could hit both tracks overnight, and at the time when you’re reading this, it could still be raining.

Maybe it isn’t Cheltenham level of rain from last week, but rain is rain, so that is sure to slow both courses up, right? It’s meant to rain all day at Ascot, and they could get up to 5mm throughout today. Haydock could very much get the same, although not guaranteed, but it’s not exactly like it’s warm currently, so any rain won’t evaporate away. While this won’t make the ground turn into a mud pit, it might have some effect, especially at Haydock which turns into a bog quickly.

Can you tell we’re weather freaks? All we’re saying is, if the rain comes properly after the time of writing, the horses who absolutely need good ground will struggle.

Do we have anything else to mention before we start?

Well, there was a nice performance from KRIPTICHIM in the 2m3f maiden hurdle at Ascot yesterday. He probably will find a novice for his next run rather than something like the Challow, but the form line is very much worth following given he was so strong in the market. His success also boosts the form of KINGSTON QUEEN who beat him at Chepstow.
