Yesterday was ANOTHER brilliant day for the newsletter.

That last race, the bumper...so satisfying to watch.

But hear me out.

Before we dive in to day 2 of the Aintree Grand National meeting, a quick plug....

If you require ANY sort of medication, be it Viagra for a big weekend, MYRKL pills so stop the hanging after or even a blue inhaler if you're asthmatic, we can hook you up at UK Meds!

Use code BGP10 at check out for medicine delivered discreetly to your door. Here's a link for the blue inhaler, should you need it and scroll further down for the penis pills.

Oh and also, it's a tough tough day of handicaps so there'll be lot of temptation to bet. You don't need to bet every race.

Let's dive tf in.

Day 2 preview

Grade 1 Mildmay Novices’ Chase

GERRI COLOMBE is the extremely warm favourite in the Aintree opener today as he looks to go one better than his Brown Advisory second.

With Aintree having watered the course after yesterday’s quick ground, he may have a better chance at winning than if they left it to mother nature – his slow jumping would be a worry but he is clear on ratings.

BRONN was a horse going well in the Brown Advisory lto before fading at the finish over the stiff test of Prestbury Park – a return to a flat track three miles should give him his best chance to finally beat GERRI COLOMBE but you have to ask how much that last race has taken out of him?

COMPLETE UNKNOWN is, pun intended, the unknown at this level – he was beaten in a Grade 2 behind GALIA DES LITEAUX (who will probably find the ground too quick today) and the ground was probably a shade too heavy for his liking. His reappearance in a handicap lto was very nice and he might be up to following GERRI COLOMBE home today.

He needs to find 7lbs with GERRI COLOMBE but he is still seemingly progressing.

Grade 1 Top Novices’ Hurdle

This is a very competitive race that is headed by Gordon Elliott’s FOUND A FIFTY with big Davy Russell in the plate.

He has been very good this season in both a good maiden hurdle win and his second to CORBETTS CROSS, a proper animal of Emmet Mullins’. That said, CORBETTS CROSS is more a 3miler and FOUND A FIFTY might just have been flattered lto.

The team at Henry de Bromhead’s are convinced their lad, INTHEPOCKET, is a two-miler as, after his fourth in the Supreme, he is continuing at the minimum distance here at Aintree.

He bolted up by six lengths on his first start this season over this trip and as long as he has the speed for it, his form is obvious, though a further trip might just see him at his best.

The interesting horse in this race is the money horse NO LOOKING BACK for Oliver McKiernan and Phillip Enright – he beat BRAZIL in a match race two starts ago and nearly gave 9lbs to IRISH POINT at Naas in March. He looks to have some engine and it’s a rare Aintree runner for McKiernan.

Grade 1 Marsh Chase

A record three Melling Chases is what FAKIR D’OUDAIRIES is looking for today as he lines up as the 9/4 favourite to defend his crown – first time cheekpieces have been reached for by connections, a potential vote of no confidence following his latest disappointment in the Ascot Chase, and he is on a little bit of a revival mission.

HITMAN was second to the reigning champion last year when looking like the winner for the majority of the contest and now they have found 2m4f as his perfect distance (a flutter at three miles didn’t suit at all), his Ryanair run reads very favourably following SHISHKIN’s win in yesterday’s Bowl.

PIC D’ORHY also represents the Paul Nicholls stable trying to finally break through to the Grade 1 level. He has been in top form all season and smashed FAKIR when they met last and it's tough to see how that form will be reversed.

FRENCH DYNAMITE is the one in this field who has been searching for proper good ground all season and his fourth on soft ground in the Ryanair could perhaps be upgraded on the basis of going. He's another yet to show himself at Grade 1 level and he needs to prove himself past handicap company today.

Grade 1 Sefton Novices’ Hurdle

Like the two-mile novice hurdle earlier in the card, the three-mile version is a tough, competitive race that sees a Gordon Elliott runner top the market – this time it is ABSOLUTE NOTIONS.

He has some good form behind GOOD LAND and INTHEPOCKET as well as beating SANDOR CLEGANE who was the Albert Bartlett third so a step up to three miles should see him at his best.

STAY AWAY FAY looked to be heading to Punchestown rather than Aintree but the Champion Trainer has declared him for today following his Bartlett win – he’s fairly lightly-raced but is definitely one to follow next season.

IROKO is the one who has seen some money recently after his Martin Pipe win off 138 – he was flat to the boards for a while two-out but stayed on, maybe suggesting three miles could suit better, but he needs to prove he is properly a Grade 1 horse.

Staking and banking

There was a lot of positive feedback yesterday from people benefitting from our max bet staking advice. Well, and general bank roll tips too. So we'll keep it here as a reminder.

If you want to take punting seriously and use racing as a value add to your life, keep a betting bank, protect it at all times (none of this 'ah we're on a bull run, I'll stick a few stupid bets on') and stick to risking the % stakes, upping notional as the bank grows. Betting banks will change your punting forever.

Help keep a healthy bank by betting less and using the TOTE Fantasy game to feed the chimp.
