The right decision was made yesterday.
Let’s dive in.
HEADLINE ROUNDUP
A NEW DAWN
February 25, 2026, will always be remembered as the day CONSTITUTION HILL’s jumping career was laid to rest.
Nicky Henderson confirmed that the 2023 Champion Hurdle winner will no longer compete over jumps and instead will focus exclusively on the Flat, ruling him out of defending his title in the Champion Hurdle two weeks time.
Henderson described the decision—made after discussions with owner Michael Buckley—as "one of the hardest" in his 48-year career, but one that has "lifted some of the weight off our shoulders."
We all know the story, the GOAT of jumps racing couldn’t jump. A total paradox. He’s suffered falls in three of his last four starts over hurdles, including a bid to reclaim the Champion Hurdle crown last season. Despite this, the worlds love for him consistently kept him firm favourite for the race until yesterday midday when the exchange started to talk.
We’re not going to go into it again, ya'll know our opinion on it. Ultimately, the right decision was made. The fact that some people want to see him over hurdles is really only because they love him and want to see him beat all again. But that only bolsters our view doesn’t it. Let's look after the horse we all love so much. Let’s enjoy him on the flat.
Old Conrad, as he is affectionately known at home, couldn't care less where he runs next!
Amazingly, the RacingBlogger came up with a perfect post for it all yesterday:
CONSTITUTION HILL will make his final appearance on a jumps track on Champion Hurdle day where he will parade in front of his jumps fans who get a chance to say thank you for the memories.
His jumping career might have been laid to rest, but CONSITUTION HILL is alive and kicking and nothing excites us more than thinking about him tearing up the flat this year.
LETS F*CKING GOOOOOO.
FACE READING
Skelton is a measly £75k off the small fortune he amassed last year and with the spring festivals yet to even start, big Dan is on course to break some records this year.
We have already done a Skelton Festival round up but given the press were actually at his yard and had him in front of the camera, we’re going to try to read Dan to see which horses make him smile.
We’re going to cheat here a little bit and use content from the people who were actually there yesterday.
First up, his the handicappers , who Dan is so, so naughty with.
BE AWARE runs in the Grand Annual. He was fave last year in the Coral Cup and is fave again. There must be a reason for that and although Dan says he’s not quite of Arkle standard, his class means this is more his bag. CALICO goes in the race too, potentially with a claimer. Place chances given he ‘knows how to run in those sorts of races’.
ACE OF SPADES has learned how to race the Pertemps distance well and goes into the race the best he’s ever been but he lines up with SUPREMELY WEST who Dan says is well handicapped.
Talking of three milers, KABRAL DU MATHAN will head to the Stayers and Dan is quite confident that if he gets the trip, they have a serious horse on their hands given his turn of foot which the field lack. We feel this lad is is the dark horse of the lot even if Dan has put up another for that accolade!
Dan’s dark horse is KATEIRA who goes for the ‘Langer Dan’ Cup lol. She clearly hasn’t been off recently but Dan is suggesting everything is finally coming right with a bit more sun on her back. it really is echoes of LANGER DAN. Let’s be honest, she’s no where near as good as him but is weighted well.
TELLHERTHENAME is bloody interesting and will be making his yard debut in the County. Dan says he works like a very smart horse and has had a racecourse gallop. Dan sounds bullish on this one.
The best chances of the week go to THE NEW LION now CONSTITUTION HILL is out the race, MADARA goes to the Plate well handicapped (says Dan with a wry smile) and has a ‘massive chance’ and MAESTRO CONTI, whose training has been exceptional, runs in the Triumph.
